Welcome to Madrina Oxfordshire based in Abingdon. This is a local branch of Madrina UK, providing prom outfits & accessories to local Oxford schools young people facing challenges. A voluntarily run organisation, they rely on generous donations from members of the public and local businesses.
Madrina was originally set up by Stefanie Lakin in Birmingham who, as a secondary school teacher, realised many students couldn’t afford to go to Prom. These are students that have already had to face so many extra hurdles in their education that to be excluded from the celebration of their achievements because they don’t have the clothes is particularly cruel. Madrina has changed that and has also helped many other students in a wide range of situations who can’t get the clothes for prom.
Madrina now has charity registration 1200930 and is helping students, who for a whole range of reasons need a little help to go to their prom. Madrina means Godmother in Italian - sometimes we need one to help us to feel amazing for just one night.
In Oxfordshire, Madrina representatives visit schools with the stock at pop up events for those that need to choose what they require and then return the stock to storage. They have already received a number of donations and word is spreading very fast.
There are currently two donation points in the area - Cheney School in Headington (FAO: Anu Dawson), and BH&O LLP in Abingdon.
